The bedding reset

A better resting place starts with the right bedding.

Dogs and cats use their beds differently, but the winning routine is the same: choose thoughtfully, place it well, keep it fresh, and notice when it is ready for a change.

A small daily comfort

Good bedding does quiet work all day.

Use this quick guide to make a bed more inviting now and easier to care for over time.

01
Choose bedding that fits the way your pet rests

Start with your dog’s or cat’s habits. A sprawler needs enough surface to stretch out, while a cat who curls up may prefer a snug edge. Measure from nose to tail, then add room to turn around without hanging over the sides.

Look for support that suits their age, size, and joints, plus a washable cover or material that can handle regular cleaning. For cats, a warm, soft texture can make a quiet nook feel secure; for dogs, stable cushioning and a durable, washable surface often matter most.

02
Place it where your pet can settle

Choose a low-traffic spot where your pet can see what is happening without being in the middle of it. Keep bedding away from door swings, walkways, and loud appliances, and leave enough clearance for an easy exit.

Avoid direct drafts and intense heat, use a non-slip base on smooth floors, and check the area at your pet’s eye level. A bed placed safely and consistently becomes a reliable invitation to rest.

03
Clean, dry, and inspect it regularly

Shake out loose fur, follow the care label, and wash covers before odor or buildup becomes noticeable. Use a pet-safe detergent, rinse thoroughly, and let every layer dry completely before putting it back—damp fill can hold odor and irritate skin.

Between washes, inspect seams, zippers, stuffing, and the underside. A quick check catches loose threads, sharp hardware, or wet spots before they turn into a safety problem.

04
Replace bedding when comfort changes

Persistent odor after washing, flattened support, torn fabric, exposed filling, or a poor fit are all useful signals. If your pet keeps shifting, avoids the bed, or no longer has room to settle, the setup may have stopped doing its job.

Replace damaged pieces promptly, and reassess size or support after growth, weight changes, or mobility changes. The best replacement is the one that makes the next rest easier to choose.
